The Rise of Wearable Tech: Where Fashion Meets Technology

August 25, 2026

I’m Abby!
I'm a certified & published fashion stylist located in Los Angeles with speciality in personal styling, color analysis and runway, commercial, and editorial styling.

Wearable technology is becoming increasingly integrated into how we dress every day. From a smart ring that tracks sleep and recovery to a smart watch monitoring activity throughout the day, wearable tech is no longer something we only put on for a workout.

As a Fashion Stylist based in Silicon Valley and Los Angeles, many of my clients work in technology or other fast-paced industries. They want the newest technology that can make their lives more efficient, but they also want it to look good with what they are wearing. In this blog, we break down the newest pieces in Fashion Tech!

Wearable Tech Is Becoming Part of the Outfit

For years, wearable technology was designed primarily around function. You wore a fitness tracker because you wanted the data, whether it worked with your outfit or not.

Today’s professionals want technology that can transition between:

  • workouts
  • the office
  • client meetings
  • travel
  • dinners
  • professional events
  • everyday life

They don’t necessarily have the time or mental bandwidth to think about switching an Oura Ring to a Cartier ring before dinner or replacing their Apple watch with their Omega watch before an investor meeting.

Wearable tech needs to function like technology and aesthetically appeal like typical accessories or jewelry.

The Growth of Wearable Tech

Wearable tech growth is also moving beyond the traditional smart watch. Smart rings, screenless fitness trackers, smart glasses, and other more discreet devices are creating new ways to incorporate technology into everyday life. This is particularly interesting from a styling perspective because the technology itself is becoming less visually disruptive.

Instead of wearing a device that feels appropriate for the gym but out of place at an investor dinner, wearable technology can now transition with you and feel like an intentional part of your overall look. For professionals working in technology, finance, law, and other high-performance industries, that distinction matters. These are people who care about their careers and often care deeply about their health, but their zone of genius isn’t necessarily fashion. They need something functional enough to keep up with their lifestyle and polished enough to work with the rest of their wardrobe.

Why Wearable Tech Makes Sense for Busy Professionals

I see wearable technology fitting particularly well into the lifestyles of professionals in fast-paced cities like San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, and Miami.

They may already be in the C-Suite or working toward a C-level position. Their days are full and they care about their performance, health, time, and how they present themselves.

Where Fashion Meets Technology

The future of wearable technology isn’t just about adding more features. For me, the more interesting question is whether those features can become easier to live with. The best wearable tech should support your health and lifestyle without requiring you to compromise your wardrobe around it.

  • A smart ring should work with your jewelry
  • A smart watch should complement your personal style
  • A fitness tracker should be able to move between different parts of your day

Wearable Tech Worth Shopping

If you’re interested in incorporating wearable technology into your wardrobe, the best options combine functionality with a design that can move through different parts of your day.

Best Smart Rings

For someone who wants health tracking without wearing a traditional smart watch, a smart ring offers one of the most discreet options. That’s what I think of as tech quiet luxury: technology sophisticated enough to improve your life and discreet enough to complement your personal style.

Look for:

  • Oura Ring 5
  • Minimal titanium smart rings
  • Gold or silver finishes that coordinate with your everyday jewelry
  • Slim designs that can be stacked or worn alongside traditional rings

The Oura smart ring is one of my favorites because it looks increasingly like jewelry rather than a fitness tracker. Choose a finish that works with the metals you already wear most often so it naturally integrates into your existing jewelry collection.

Best Smart Watches

A smart watch makes sense for someone who wants health, activity, and performance information readily available throughout the day.

Look for:

  • Apple Watch
  • Polar fitness watches
  • Streamlined cases
  • Interchangeable bands
  • Neutral or metallic finishes

If you wear your smart watch from your morning workout through professional meetings, consider having more than one band. A sports band can work for exercise, while a leather, metal, or more refined band can make the same watch feel more intentional with professional clothing.

Best Screenless Fitness Trackers

If you want the benefits of wearable technology without another screen, screenless trackers are worth considering.

Look for:

  • Minimalist fitness bracelets
  • Slim health trackers
  • Neutral bands
  • Designs that layer easily with jewelry

These can be particularly useful for professionals who want continuous health tracking without having notifications or another visible screen competing for their attention.
