Wedding Guest Guide: Spring/Summer

April 24, 2026

Wedding season is among us, and that means figuring out what to wear as a guest. Shopping for an outfit that you might only wear once to a special event can be really hard, whether you’re searching for elegant dresses for wedding guest looks or trying to nail the right wedding guest attire men can feel confident in. There is a lot to consider when trying to pick out the best outfit as a wedding guest: What is the dress code? Is it indoor or outdoor? What is the venue? What temperature will it be outside that day? What is your relationship to the bride and groom? You definitely want to look your best but also feel comfortable, since weddings are long events.

Below is your wedding guide to picking out the perfect wedding outfit this season!

What to Wear:

The goal is not to create a “special event version” of yourself. It is to refine what already works for you.

1. Best Colors to Wear

Spring and summer weddings call for:

  • soft neutrals (rose, gold, tan)
  • muted pastels (sage, dusty blue, soft lavender)
  • bright and bold (lime, coral, watermelon)

Avoid:

  • stark black (can feel too heavy in daytime and sunny settings)
  • overly bright neons (can feel attention-seeking)
  • anything too close to white

The goal is presence, not dominance; after all, it’s not your wedding day hehe.

2. Best Dress Silhouettes

Silhouette determines how grounded you feel.

The most reliable options:

  • slip dresses (clean, minimal, quietly refined)
  • A-line dresses (balanced and universally flattering)
  • column dresses (structured without excess volume)
  • wrap dresses (soft structure with flexibility)

These silhouettes move with you instead of requiring adjustment so you can dance the night away!

3. Best Dress Lengths

Length is where most people overthink.

The most effective options:

  • midi length (the most versatile and context-safe)
  • ankle length (slightly more elevated, still effortless)

Mini can feel too casual, and full-length gowns can feel overly formal unless the dress code calls for it.

The goal is ease so you can move freely and be comfortable all night long.

4. What Men Should Wear: Button Down Shirts + Blazer

For men, structure comes from the top half.

Strong options include:

  • lightweight button-down shirts (linen or cotton blends)
  • unstructured blazers (adds polish without rigidity)
  • refined long sleeve polos (in more relaxed settings)

The key is clean lines without stiffness.

5. What Men Should Wear: Trousers or Chinos

Balance the structure above with ease below.

Best options:

  • tailored trousers (lightweight fabrics for warm weather such as linen)
  • chinos (more relaxed but still intentional)

Avoid overly casual denim unless the setting clearly supports it.

6. Shoes & Finishing Details

Footwear and accessories complete the outfit.

For women:

  • minimal heels or refined flats
  • simple jewelry that does not compete with the dress but enhances it and draws attention to the wearer’s face

For men:

  • loafers or clean dress shoes
  • minimal accessories such as a pocket square, cuff links, or a bow tie for fun

These choices should reinforce the outfit, not distract from it.
